1. Opt Out of Model Training

   By default, Free and Pro accounts can be used for training. Go to Settings → Privacy and disable "Model Improvement" to prevent your conversations from being used to train future models. This setting can be changed anytime.

2. Use Incognito Mode for Sensitive Topics

   Claude offers Incognito chats that are never used for model training, regardless of your privacy settings. These conversations are automatically deleted after 30 days and don't appear in your chat history.

3. Understand Data Retention Periods

   If training is enabled, data is kept for up to 5 years. If disabled, conversations are stored for only 30 days. Business accounts (Team/Enterprise) are never used for training and have stronger privacy guarantees.

4. Delete Conversations Regularly

   Deleted conversations are immediately removed from your history and won't be used for future model training. However, they may still be included in training that has already started.

5. Consider Upgrading to Business Plans

   Claude for Work (Team/Enterprise plans) explicitly prohibits data training and provides stronger confidentiality guarantees. Business plans also offer better data ownership terms.
